(click the picture to see a larger view) Zeigler Bank Bandits Apparently Eluded Area Police Roadblocks. This was the the front page headline of the local paper that day in 1968. A item the shocked many in the small commuity of Zeigler. No this is not the first, nor will it be the last bank robbery, but those in Zeigler was stunned and in disbelief that a bank robbery could happen in Zeigler. It was reported that the bandits was rewarded for their dire deed with a loot of $30000.00 to $52,000.00 dollars. The paper reported that the robbers were well versed in their chosen profession as they had staked out the bank and heisted a getaway car in Christopher just a hour before robbing the bank in Zeigler. It also appeared that they had a second excape car located just North of Zeigler where they changed clothes and fled without a trace.
