The Super Kol Park (Click on Pictures for more detail) The Super Kol Park was the brain child of Ward Patchett. The coal company owned the land and it was not being utilized for any purpose. Mr. Patchett was a great person for bringing all the mine bosses together for social purposes. In the winter the bosses association would meet at the Community House and in the spring & summer they often met at the Super Kol Park. Those attending were bosses from Zeigler Mine No. 2, Zeigler Mine No. 3, and the Buckhorn mine. In addition to the mine bosses, coal dealers from southern Illinois and the St. Louis area were invited to cook outs at Super Kol. At other times, truckers who were under contract to haul Zeigler coal were hosted at Super Kol. After all of the mines closed, the coal company deeded the park to the city of Zeigler Story provided by Dr. Allan Patton
