It’s a place that has always been, so very dear to me,
And the very best little town, any person could ever be
It had the best of everything, and most anything could be found,
In this little town of ZEIGLER, that I called “MY HOMETOWN”
I was born in ZEIGLER on Oak Street, way back in “38,”
To two hard working parents, who were named Jake and Kate
My life in ZEIGLER was so good, and it was a time back when,
You knew all of your neighborhood, and trusted all your friends
Remembering the town’s big circle, and the big old Company Store,
The Mines and the Muddy River, and there was so much more
I’d listen to Cardinal baseball, and maybe a heavyweight fight,
As I listened to the family radio, around the popcorn bowl at night
A walk in the woods for Hickory Nuts, or maybe some Berries to pick,
Or take one of Mom’s home made pies, to a neighbor who may be sick
The very thing about Zeigler, that still stays clear in my mind,
Was a town full of good people, who were so friendly all the time
I’d walk across the Maple Street, and down to the end of South Pine,
And I’d eventually make my long journey, out to the Number Two Mine
Where I’d fish or swim or shoot a dove, to pass my time away,
And then make my way home oh so tired, at the end of my long day
I always walked everywhere, and went to Leiter school everyday,
And Sunday’s were for family and Church, and our “Fried Chicken” day
ZEIGLER seemed to teach me, that all my dreams could come true,
And that I could do most anything, that I set my mind to do
A lot of things in ZEIGLER, have changed since I moved away,
But all my ZEIGLER memories, are with me even today
I think the town of ZEIGLER, is still the best around,
And I will always be proud to say, that ZEIGLER is
“MY HOMETOWN”
