Attention Vietnam Veterans No event in American history is more misunderstood than the Vietnam War. When the event came to an end, there were no celebrations in the streets and there were no heroes. In fact, in many instances, when the veterans arrived home, they were met with frosty receptions and treated with disrespect, which led to their bewilderment. Why? They had fought for their country to preserve freedom. Now, more than thirty years later, the Z-CAL group, with the assistance of the Zeigler American Legion Post #177, is planning to patch up some of the ill feelings embedded within veterans of that era. On Monday, May 26, 2008, the 35th Anniversary of the conclusion of the war, a recognition program will be hosted at the Zeigler Public Library. If you are a person who served in the military during the Vietnam era, 1961 - 1973, or you know of persons who served, we need your help. In order to make the program a success, we are striving to identify all former Zeigler, Zeigler/Royalton or Royalton school students who served in the military during the above time slot. Please forward a copy of your Form DD214 (Please mark out your Military or SS number for privacy sake), a picture in uniform and a brief statement indicating where you were stationed. When it is received, the information will be divided into two sections, those who served in areas other than Vietnam and those who served in country. Please mail, hand carry, or e-mail the above information to Denton Vaughn or Allan Patton as soon as possible. We are expecting a great number of veterans and it will take some time to properly prepare the program and all of its parts. Thanks for all or you assistance to make this program a success.
